This year I got to read 35 books and made 42 blog posts.

I started the year with Chuck Palahniuk’s book on writing, Consider This, then a couple of other non-fiction books. Moved through Hans Rosling’s books: Factfulness, and How I Learned to Understand the World. Then to Saint Augustines’ City of God, and Confessions.

When the Palestine-Israel conflict was being highlighted in international news, I happened to be reading the graphic novels: Palestine by Joe Sacco, and Waltz with Bashir by Ari Folman and David Polonsky. I wasn’t aware and I realized that the conflict had been going on for a long time.

For the rest of the year, I got to read a couple books on Negotiation, Love Languages, a lot on Thinking, Eastern and Western Philosophies, plus some Biographies.

These are my 5 Favorite Reads This Year (in no particular order)

The Book Of Five Rings was written by the samurai, Miyamoto Musashi, one of the greatest who ever lived. It is about how he conducted his life, training for swordsmanship, and his philosophy/path to enlightenment.

How To Think Like A Roman Emperor is part lessons on psychology/emotional resilience, and part biography of Marcus Aurelius.

How To Live is part essays about life, and part biography of Michel de Montaigne.

The First Filipino is a biography of Jose Rizal.

Tiny Habits is about behavior design, a method on creating life-changing habits.

I would say 2021 had its lulls and high points. I’m still very much grateful for this year and hopeful for the new one.

On to a new year of learning! And I leave this quote from Epicurus:

“Not what we have but what we enjoy constitutes our abundance”
